If you are trying to decide on which one to get, I recommend that you start with the Level 1, but really you should get both. I plan to collect these as they come out, they are really that good. HI Kari - have you actually used the DVD with your clients? or are you basing your negative review of the product on your own personal hypothesis? Keep in mind that you do NOT have autism... the DVD was designed specifically for kids on the spectrum i.e. the choice of music, the vocals that you mention... etc.

The aut-erobics DVD was used for 8 weeks for 12-15 minutes a day at the RDI School in Culver City and the kids LOVED it!!!!!! The sequence and patterning along with repetition and predictability are imbedded within the movement and music to specifically cognitively redirect left and right hemisphere brain transmission. Brain gym!

I suggest that you try the product before making such a strong negative persuasive case against it and in fact I would be happy to come to your place of practice and show you how to utilize the DVD with your clients..I am certain that the kids will enjoy it....and I can offer additional sensory integration strategies and skills helpful for instructing individuals with autism spectrum disorders.

The New Method 20/20 Series: Core Cardio Review



While I agree with other reviewers that this is not a heart pumping, high intensity workout it is certainly NOT a waste of money. I find this DVD quite effective and use it frequently as a warm up for yoga, Pilates, and higher intensity cardio workouts. The routines are fun and easy to follow once you have done them once or twice. Not being a dancer, I felt quite accomplished after mastering each routine. I particularly like Lisa Wheeler's segment. It's more challenging and organized than Tracy Mallet's (Tracy has a bent knee twist move which is a bit rough on my weak knees and on which she messes up some of her cues).

My biggest complaint about this DVD is that the Pilates "cool downs" are fairly worthless. The transition between the dance segment and the mat work is virtually nonexistent. I only do the Pilates work when using this workout as a warm-up for more Pilates or yoga.

On days when I wake up in the morning and don't want to do ANYTHING this DVD motivates me with its light and fun moves, making it vastly more valuable than my most challenging and extensive workout that I can only bring myself to do once or twice a month.




The New Method 20/20 Series: Core Cardio Overview


If you're a well-coordinated, intermediate-level aerobic dancer and you enjoy highly choreographed dance routines, you'll like this video. The first of the two 20-minute workouts consists of complex, jazzy dance patterns built into a routine. Lisa Wheeler will lead you through hip-walk, knee-pop, pivot, and pose with plenty of attitude. Tracey Mallett leads the second workout, also jazzy, with more Latin moves. The instructors, who are joined by six young (and impossibly slender) women, don't teach as much as demonstrate, so it's helpful if you have some dance background. Live musicians play, but their music seems too subdued to match the energy or flavor of the dance routines. Both workouts end with abdominals and a brief stretch. Recommended for aerobic dancers who like choreography challenges and have an easy time picking them up. Coordination and mobile hips required. --Joan Price

The Method - Pilates Target Zones (Upper-Mis-Lower body) Review



Although I mainly stick to Tae Bo and kickboxing, I also like to throw the occasional yoga and/or pilates workout into the mix for flexibility and strength. I love Jennifer Kries as an instructor - she's always peppy and cheerful without becoming annoying, and she does a great job of explaining the poses in such a way that even yoga newbies like myself can easily understand. Because I've enjoyed Kries's DVDs in the past, I chose The Method: Pilates Target Zones: Upper-Mid-Lower Body when I needed a dedicated abdominal routine. As usual, Jennifer does not disappoint!

The workout is divided into three 25-minute segments: Abdominal/Centering, Lower Body/Grounding, and Balanced/Lengthening. The segment titles are a bit misleading, however; the first two, Abdominal/Centering and Lower Body/Grounding, focus on the abdominals via a series of "roll ups," while the last portion, Balanced/Lengthening, is an interesting mix of yoga and ballet. The distinctions between Upper, Mid, and Lower Body aren't as discrete as the titles would have you believe. Nonetheless, each segment is challenging and effective - I've noticed a definite improvement in my abdominal strength and overall flexibility since incorporating this DVD into my fitness program.

Abdominal/Centering, the first segment, begins with some breathing exercises, and then alternates between yogic stretching and increasingly difficult pilates "roll ups" that really (and I mean REALLY) challenge the abs. Lower Body/Grounding is more of the same, but this series incorporates the use of a lightly weighted bar to assist in the standing stretches and give a point of focus in the "roll ups." Even so, you don't have to run out and buy extra equipment in order to take full advantage of this workout - you can very easily substitute a broomstick or similar object for the bar (I use my Richard Simmons Ab Roller!). Finally, the Balanced/Lengthening section leads you through various yogic postures, including the Sun Salutation, the Proud Warrior series, and Awkward Chair (this one really works your legs!). Kries also includes a few ballet exercises, such as pliés and ankle presses (again, great leg work!).

I have absolutely no complaints about this DVD - which is very rare for me! The exercises are great, the instructor is engaging and encouraging, and the DVD format is suitable (i.e., each segment is its own chapter on the DVD, so you can easily customize your workout). Upper-Mid-Lower Body is especially worthwhile for those looking to firm their tummies. Along with Tae Bo: Billy's BootCamp: Ab BootCamp, this is my favorite ab workout. And it shows - my six-pack is coming in quite nicely!

They are so excited that you will find the local club and group fitness (aerobics) class start. It begins smoothly enough, until you hear your teacher say, hear, "on the body and change accordingly." You think .. WHAT? My Aerobics really think that my body will tell me? Hear what? "What I expect to hear?

...who are looking for a challenging step DVD, you've found it! I love step aerobics & am trying to build my collection of home workout DVDs. While I love Reebok The Video, I wanted something with more choreography and this DVD delivered! I'm pretty coordinated and when I used to take step classes, I could easily keep up with instructors who liked to mix up moves rather than stick to basic ones. However, in all my years stepping, I've never seen instructors try the creative combos found in this DVD - probably b/c everyone, myself included, would've just stood and stared, which was my initial reaction when I tried this DVD today! However, I liked Lisa Wheeler's cueing, her voice (unlike Denise you know who!), and the combos so much I decided to concentrate and learn the steps this first time. I won't lie to you, it took me well over an hour just to get through the aerobics routine, b/c I kept having to rewind and redo the combos (and despite all the pausing in my cardio routine, just by relearning the combos over and over, I broke a major sweat!). I really hate to build, build, then repeat the same steps, so I really loved the structure of this DVD. You get to do 3 amazing combos, each punctuated by quick but effective thigh/glutes moves, then at the end you get to put all 3 combos together. I love this format for it makes the time fly and I was having so much fun focusing on the steps that I didn't have time to focus on the burn :) After the aerobics segment, there's a challenging ab workout that uses Pilates principles and really works your core. This is one DVD that I know I will not get bored with.

I really like this DVD. The steps are tough enough to be challenging, but not so hard I get frustrated. Of course, everybody is at a different level of dance ability, so whether it's too hard or too easy for you will depend on whether you've ever danced before. But for nondancers, the DVD does have a "step guide" where the teacher goes over the steps more slowly. The choreography is cute and the exercise is good...I really "feel it" afterwards!
